Nigeria and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has fully thrown his weight behind new coach Eric Chelle and his aggressive plans to make Super Eagles successful again.
Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen, has thrown his full support behind the team’s new head coach, Eric Chelle, praising the Malian tactician’s passion and unrelenting drive to transform the national side into a continental powerhouse.
Speaking on a recent Mikel Obi podcast, Osimhen revealed a candid exchange with Chelle, shedding light on the coach’s bold ambitions and no-nonsense approach to leading Nigeria’s footballing elite.

As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, Osimhen recounted Chelle’s plans, stating; “I could see because I knew him from the last AFCON, what he’s done with the Malian team. He’s a coach that loves to play and he really loves to fight.”
The Napoli star, on loan at Galatasaray, expressed admiration for Chelle’s track record and fiery determination—qualities he believes could propel the Super Eagles to new heights.
Chelle, who previously guided Mali to impressive performances on the African stage, reportedly told Osimhen that he’ll rely heavily on senior players like him to set the tone for the squad.
“He said he might scream at us or do other stuff, but we shouldn’t take it like that because he just wants to win,” Osimhen shared.
Far from being deterred, the 26-year-old striker embraced the intensity. “I totally agree with him,” he declared, signalling his readiness to lead under Chelle’s demanding regime.
Osimhen didn’t mince words about the weight of responsibility that comes with wearing the Super Eagles jersey.
“To be able to achieve something, Nigeria is a big country with millions of players. If you are privileged to put on the Super Eagles jersey, you have to give everything,” he said. “So, I think we’ve got in a coach that is going to be very, very demanding.”
With Chelle at the helm, expectations are soaring for a Nigerian squad brimming with talent but often criticised for underperforming on the biggest stages.
Osimhen’s ringing endorsement suggests a new era of grit and glory could be on the horizon, one where the Super Eagles soar under the watchful, fiery gaze of a coach who refuses to settle for anything less than victory.
