Amorim's comments follow Fernandes' hat-trick in United's 4-1 Europa League victory against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, a performance that underscored his importance to the team.
Fernandes, a player who elicits both praise and criticism, has once again proven his value, particularly in a season where United have struggled for consistency. Despite facing criticism regarding his captaincy and overall performances, Fernandes remains United's top scorer with 15 goals, and his contributions have often been decisive in turning games around.
What Amorim said
Amorim believes Fernandes tends to disrupt the team's shape by frequently leaving his position in search of the ball.
"When we need it, he is always there. He can bring the ball forward. He can score goals. He is a perfect captain for our team and we need to help him win titles," Amorim said.
He continued, "We know that sometimes he is frustrated. We know he wants to win so badly and when things are not going well, he is changing position and going after the ball. Sometimes he needs to trust his teammates."
Manchester United defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford, 5-2 on aggregate to advance to the last eight of the Europa League.
