Mogadishu, August 16 (QNA) - Somali authorities announced on Saturday the killing of 11 Al-Shabaab militants, including a senior commander, and the destruction of military vehicles and weapons in operations carried out over the past three days in central and southern Somalia.
According to Somali news agency (SONNA), operations were jointly conducted by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international partners.
The first operation, on August 12, targeted an Al-Shabaab gathering in Tardo, Hiran region, killing seven militants. The second, in Dar al-Ni'mah, Middle Shabelle region, foiled an attempted militant attack, leaving four fighters - including a senior leader - dead. The third, on August 14, destroyed a military vehicle loaded with weapons in Galguduud region, central Somalia.
Somali forces have been battling armed groups, particularly Al-Shabaab, for over a decade. In recent months, they have regained control of several areas in central and southern parts of the country. (QNA)
