Fifteen (15) overseas-based players from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom (UK) have been named in the 35-member Baby Pearls squad.
These players include Hana Sotutu who is the daughter of former Blues and national rep Waisake Sotutu. She is the younger sister of Blues no.8 Hoskins Sotutu.
Other NZ-based players inlcude Mikayla Daunakamakama and Eseta Waqaira while Ateca Smth is the lone player from UK.
These overseas-based players have been actively competing in various leagues and expressed their commitment to represent Fiji.
The squad have been training at their respective clubs while the local players are under the watch of assistant coach Vaiti Waqatabu.
They will be involved in intensive cross training camps and tournaments both in Fiji and abroad leading up to the Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) in Gibraltar in September.
Head coach Simone Nalatu said: “We are excited to bring together a strong and talented young group of athletes, both from within Fiji and abroad.
“The local squad have been very committed and training well on the ground at home. Their hard work here coupled with the commitment shown by our overseas-based players to be part of this journey speaks volumes about the growth and depth of Fijian netball talent.”
Pearls players named includes Elina Drikibau, Alisi Neisulu and Nina Nakula.
The local squad will begin a 5-day training camp with Nalatu on April 8. A 15-member team will be named following the camp to travel and play five matches in the Ruby North Series from April 23-28.
