17-Year-Old Blades Brown Makes Korn Ferry Tour History Never Seen Before

Blades Brown continues to prove that the decision to turn pro was not taken lightly. At an age when other players are playing their last junior tournaments or their first college ones, Brown is breaking records at the highest level.At 17 (he will be 18 in May 2025), the Nashville, Tennessee, native is already the youngest player in history to shoot a 61 on a tournament under the PGA Tour umbrella.His feat came in the first round of the Veritex Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. Brown carded one eagle, nine birdies and one bogey to sit in third place on the leaderboard after 18 holes.Brown shattered his own 2025 American Express (second round) record of 64 by three shots, which remains the under-18 record on the PGA Tour alone. On the Korn Ferry Tour, the previous mark was 65 and belonged to Si Woo Kim (2013 Mid-Atlantic Championship).During the round, Brown also recorded a consecutive birdie-eagle streak between holes 5 and 11, becoming the 13th player on the Korn Ferry Tour to accomplish such a feat.Over the next two rounds of the event, Brown carded scores of 67 and 66. His 54-hole score is 19-under and he is tied for 11th place, four shots off the lead.This is just the youngster's third start on the Korn Ferry Tour. He made the cut in the previous two, but his best finish was a tie for 41st at the Club Car Championship.Blades Brown has played in four PGA Tour events this season. He has made just one cut, the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld, where he tied for 34th and took home a paycheck of more than $35,000.His top-level debut came a year earlier when he played in the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic still as an amateur. He finished tied for 26th at 10-under.Brown shot to fame in the golf world when he won medalist honors in the stroke play portion of the 2023 US Amateur at the age of 16. Shortly thereafter, he finished runner-up in the US Amateur Four-Ball, teaming up with Jackson Herrington.In December 2024, he announced his decision not to play collegiate golf and to go straight to the pros.
