Another batch of 200 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) was transferred by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said the PDLs were escorted by 100 corrections officers led by CCINSP Anthony Nupable Omega, with augmentation from BuCor SWAT, PNP Muntinlupa, PNP Highway Patrol Group, Philippine Coast Guard, Port Police, and the SLEX Security Team to ensure a safe and secure transfer. The transfer is part of the ongoing decongestion program of NBP and the broader preparations for its closure by 2028. It also aims to support agricultural manpower needs for institutional projects in Sablayan, Catapang added.According to BuCor, the PDLs arrived safely at SPPF on Friday night.Meanwhile, with the onset of the rainy season, Catapang has directed officials to implement comprehensive safety measures across all correctional facilities. His directives include inspecting and repairing roofing, clearing gutters and drainage systems, trimming trees, and ensuring that emergency power supplies are ready.By adhering to these preventative strategies, BuCor aims to minimize the risks posed by heavy rainfall and safeguard both inmates and staff, Catapang said.
