Pacific Energy has boosted the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament with $20,000. They have contributed $ 15,000 cash and $5000 worth of fuel.
Chief marketing officer Amit Maharaj yesterday announced the fuel company is continuing their sponsorship to promote development of grassroots rugby. This is the second year Pacific Energy is sponsoring the Under-18 Future Superstars Division.
“This year is our 15th year anniversary and 13 years as a partner of this tournament,” Maharaj said.
“We are deeply committed to promoting grassroots, growth and development of emerging talents in Fiji as we recognise the importance of creating opportunities.
“I believe, Marist 7s is the best platform to show our commitment to the people of Fiji because we always believe in supporting the local and giving back to our communities,” he added.
He added that the format has slightly changed to accommodate the 52 men’s teams, which have been increased by four from last year’s tournament.
There are 13 pools of four teams.
“One of the key changes is that there will be no draws in any match from the pool to the finals.
“For every game, we will need a winner,” he said.
“If there is a draw the game will continue to have a winner. So it’s a golden point game every game. This makes it very competitive for all teams,” Tikaram added.
The ticket price was also launched yesterday. For the first time a threeday package will cost spectators only $22 provided if they paid online.
Online payment was made available last night; payment details on the Marist 7s Facebook page.
If spectators wish to pay at the entrance, grandstand admission is $10, $15 and $25 on day one, two and three respectively.
Marist Rugby Club president Lawrence Tikaram acknowledged the support and continuous partnership from Pacific Energy.
All the divisions have been sold out except for the U18 girls where two slots are available.
