Jeddah, May 26 (QNA) - Diriyah Biennale Foundation concluded the 2nd edition of Islamic Arts Biennale, which was held at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for 4 months from Jan. 25 under the title "And What Lies Between," with the participation of Qatar Museums. This edition hosted more than 500 historical masterpieces and contemporary artworks, displayed in five main galleries with the participation of more than 30 artistic and cultural institutions from 21 countries, including Qatar Museums and more than 30 contemporary artists who presented 29 new works commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation. Qatar Museums participated in this year's Islamic Arts Biennale with eight artworks from the collection of the Museum of Islamic Art, a world-renowned institution dedicated to preserving and displaying the rich artistic heritage of the Islamic world. The Museum of Islamic Art's eight artworks offer a window into the numerical and mathematical creativity that characterizes Islamic art and illustrates its impact on the world. These artifacts represent more than just historical pieces; they embody a sophisticated understanding of mathematics and how it was integrated into art and everyday life. From the intricate celestial sphere's depiction of stars to the geometric perfection of a Timurid vessel, these pieces demonstrate the profound interaction between science, mathematics, and art in Islamic culture. This edition marked a milestone in the Biennale's history, displaying a full display of the Kaaba cover, known as the Kiswa, for the first time outside of Mecca, alongside a rare collection of Islamic artifacts from Makkah and Medina.
