3 ways Anthony Edwards can take over from LeBron James and Steph Curry in playoffs to become ‘face of the NBA’

That sweep had many believing the star was well and truly on his way up the NBA’s most popular athlete charts. Further wins against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets helped grow that stature. Just that in the West finals, the Timberwolves collectively struggled with fatigue, ending their season. The star then rested and prepared for the Paris Olympics. On a team that featured James, Curry, Durant, Joel Embiid and Jayson Tatum, Ant Man carved out a role of his own. He played crucial minutes and both his offense as well as his defense helped Team USA win gold. This season many expected him to build on that success. But roster changes along with schematic changes saw his team struggle. Now some questioned if Edwards had lost some of his drive. But he led his Minnesota Timberwolves to storm back and reach the playoffs. Now, he has a unique opportunity to re-establish himself as the next ‘face of the NBA’. Defeat LeBron James and Steph Curry in the playoffs Anthony Edwards’ performances in the final month and a half of the regular season helped the Minnesota Timberwolves climb their way back into a playoff spot. By finishing sixth, they will face third placed Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. It will be his first battle in a seven-game series against LeBron James. He knows the Lakers are media and fan favorites. If he can repeat his first-round exploits from last season, he could score a major series win over one of the greatest players of all time. That win will also conclude his revenge against Luka Doncic, a player who is also a possible next ‘face of the NBA’ candidate. After that, there is a chance he will face Steph Curry and the Warriors in the second round. If they do end up battling each other, Edwards could relish the idea of defeating another one of the Big 3 OGs of this era. Finish the job in the West Finals Once he is done with dispatching both LeBron James and potentially Steph Curry, Anthony Edwards could look towards finishing a job he could not last season. They will face either the Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Clippers or whoever ends up with the eighth seed. Facing any of those teams while battling fatigue will not be ideal. But the entire process of becoming great is to dig deep and push ahead. Edwards revealed that he has been watching Michael Jordan videos to motivate himself. Maybe he could continue watching how the legend dug deep to become great. That desire to be great will be put to the test in the Western Conference Finals. All the 23-year-old needs to do is to continue his stellar form. He should be able to walk away with a ticket to the NBA Finals. Win his first NBA title Many star players have reached the NBA Finals, but few have been able to end up winning the Larry O’Brien trophy. Then there are many who went through quite a few Finals before winning their first title. For instance, LeBron James, who went to two finals before winning the first of his four NBA titles. On the other hand, Michael Jordan won his first title on the very first trip to the Finals. Anthony Edwards could set himself up to create a legacy if he wins his first NBA title this season. Now that he has won against the extremely competitive West, most of the job has been done. The task of winning a title will become easier once he reaches the summit. But to finally plant his flag, he will have to bring out his A-game. Whoever, Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves battle, will face a daunting task. No opponent would like to let go of a win without putting up a solid fight. But if he wins the 2025 NBA title, the basketball world will be at his feet. Not only will he cement his place as the next ‘face of the NBA’, but he will also become one of the best players in all of basketball. The road to this victory is tough and filled with a lot of obstacles. Overcome them, and he will be considered great.
