Thirty-three students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Papireddipalli village, Somandepalle mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, fell ill on Thursday night after consuming sambar rice at the hostel.
Soon after dinner, the students complained of dizziness and stomach pain. The hostel warden immediately shifted them to a nearby government hospital, where doctors administered first aid and IV fluids. The doctors on duty said that all the students were in a safe condition, though kept under observation for the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the district administration directed the Education department officials to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on the incident. A team of officials who visited the hostel took samples of the food items consumed by the students for lab tests.
