New Movies Streaming
‘JAWS @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story‘
More than 50 years after “Jaws” became the first modern blockbuster, there’s been plenty of behind-the-scenes stories of how the film came to life. Nevertheless, this National Geographic documentary slickly packages those shark tales into a compelling film, thanks in part to commentary from James Cameron, George Lucas, and the man himself, Steven Spielberg.
How to watch: “Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story” is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
‘Sinners’ (2025)
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan remain undefeated when working together, whether it’s in “Creed,””Fruitvale Station,” “Black Panther,” or this Depression-era drama set in the Mississippi Delta.
Twin brothers (Jordan) and their aspiring blues musician cousin (Miles Caton) set out to open a juke joint, where the liquor will flow freely and the music will give a town of Black sharecroppers a night to let loose. The film takes a turn when the trio encounter a surprising supernatural force and a (less-surprising) dose of racism.

‘Superman’ (1978)
Before heading to theaters to see James Gunn’s new take on “Superman” (read my full review), take a couple of hours to remember how Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, and Gene Hackman set the standard for any future takes on Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor, respectively.

New TV Shows Streaming
After an uneven, unfocused Season 3, “The Bear” served up a more balanced meal in Season 4, spacing out episodes of white-knuckle anxiety and in-depth character studies. I especially loved Dorchester native Ayo Edebiri in episode 4 (“Worms”), as Sydney contemplates leaving Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and the rest of the crew for a competing restaurant.

‘Foundation’
For fans of heady sci-fi, Apple TV+ has been the streamer of choice since its launch, thanks in part to the complex (and rewarding) “Foundation.” Loosely based on the sci-fi series of the same name by Isaac Asimov, “Foundation” concerns a group of rebels (The Foundation) who use the power of a sort of scientific prophecy known as ‘psychohistory’ to take down the Galactic Empire.
Confused yet? Just know that “Foundation” follows in the tradition of shows like “The Expanse” and “Battlestar Galactica” in telling a dense, lore-intensive sci-fi story buoyed by great individual performances by actors like Jared Harris (“Mad Men”), Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”) and Leah Harvey (“Tuesday”). Oh, and definitely start with Season 1.
