6 Indian watch brands that celebrate the spirit of 'made in India' with iconic timepieces

Over the past two decades, horology in India has made great strides – both in aesthetics and innovation. Once defined by utilitarian timepieces, Indian watch brands have increasingly drawn to luxury, independent, and heritage-inspired pieces, signalling a deeper appreciation for horology as an art. A new generation of collectors seeks mechanical excellence, rare editions, and bespoke craftsmanship, while e-commerce and global reach bring niche makers closer to enthusiasts. In response, domestic watchmakers are exploring premium materials, in-house movements, and design stories grounded in Indian culture. Horology in India has finally come of age. 6 Indian watch brands that celebrate the spirit of 'made in India' with iconic timepieces Undoubtedly India’s most prominent watch brand, Titan houses many sub-brands catering to all kinds of demographics with brands like Fast Track, Sonata, Raga and more recently Nebula. Having witnessed a boom in the local luxury watch market, Titan was quick to release its very own in-house tourbillon movement, which was quickly followed by the launch of its most significant watch yet: the Titan Nebula Jalsa. With its first in-house tourbillon movement, Titan signals a confident step into the realm of haute horology. The Jalsa by Nebula pays homage to Jaipur with an 18k rose gold case and a marble dial adorned with a Persian-style miniature painting, masterfully created by Padma Shri awardee Shakir Ali. Limited to just 10 pieces, it stands as a rare confluence of fine watchmaking and collectible art. 2. Jaipur Watch Company Known for its pioneering vintage coin-based watch aesthetic, the Jaipur Watch Company has carved out quite a niche for itself by incorporating design elements that celebrate the country’s history, heritage and cultural narratives. For India’s 79th Independence Day, JWC has created a watch featuring one of the first coins to be minted by an Independent India. The one piece coin houses a Seiko movement and is embedded within a new red opal stone dial. At the centre of the coin is a galloping horse motif, signifying freedom. Encased within silver-toned stainless steel, the watch carries JWC’s signature design elements while introducing a couple of new ones. 3. Bangalore Watch Company Bangalore Watch Company traces its roots to the legacy of HMT, the brand that defined timekeeping for generations in India. Its founders, husband-and-wife duo Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj, grew up wearing HMT watches, and that nostalgia deeply informs their creations. Their designs blend the elegance of classic dress watches with subtle Indian nuances, resulting in timepieces that feel both familiar and distinctive. With its clean, minimalist aesthetic BWC (which bears no relation to JWC or DWC and IWC for that matter) does not lean heavily on Indian heritage like other local brands. Instead the brand chooses to pay subtle homages to everything from the country’s major maritime and military milestones, its unique geology, passion for cricket and more. Prioritising legibility over ostentation, BWC watches prefer a classical aesthetic, utilising bright colours, tough materials and prefers the fuss-free reliability of an automatic Swiss movement. Sylvi watches bring a youthful, style-conscious energy to India’s watch scene. With bold dials, sporty silhouettes, and wallet-friendly pricing, they strike a balance between fashion and function. Designed for everyday versatility yet rooted in trend-led aesthetics, Sylvi appeals to a generation that wants statement-making timepieces without compromising accessibility. Contemporary, affordable and available in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles, Sylvi is among India’s lesser known watch brands, albeit one with a strong value proposition that only quartz-powered watches can deliver. India continues to be the biggest market for wearable tech, and BoAt remains the undisputed market leader. BoAt’s wearable tech brings a fashion-forward edge to everyday functionality, delivering smartwatches and fitness trackers that marry vibrant design with practical features. Its unabashedly Apple-adjacent aesthetic might not make it the most original smartwatch design. But to an increasingly fitness-conscious generation that wants health tracking, seamless connectivity, and a touch of personality – Boat’s watches are an indispensable lifestyle accessory. Although its repertoire remains quite limited, Horpa stands-out for its distinct blend of sporty and neo-classic watch aesthetics. Featuring a Seiko quartz movement, its watches, like the Safari, showcase great craftsmanship and robust build quality. As a refreshing change of pace, Horpa does not mine Indian heritage for its aesthetics – it instead taps into global trends, bringing knurled metal dials, high quality leather straps and contemporary looks into the equation. Horpa Watches injects a fresh, modern voice into Indian watchmaking, pairing minimalist design with clean lines, versatile proportions, and dependable movements.
