8 forgotten Rangers players set for summer transfer chop including flop dubbed 'next level' signing
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
As the summer transfer window looms, another rebuild is on the horizon at Ibrox . Gio van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale and Philippe Clement have all squandered millions in recent years and paid the price with their jobs. Now, as the moneymen behind the San Francisco 49ers-backed takeover prepare to sweep into power at Rangers , fans will hope better recruitment will bring the glory days back to Govan. Interim boss Barry Ferguson is the man steering the ship at the minute, and triumphs over Celtic and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce have bolstered his case to land his dream job full-time. Yet whether it's the club legend or another man at the helm next season, one of the biggest priorities will be clearing out the alarming amount of deadwood currently on the books. Here, Record Sport picks out eight forgotten men who will be up for the chop this summer. The versatile Dutch defender has been out of action since undergoing surgery on a nightmare knee injury back in November. Gers have the option to buy the 23-year-old from Feyenoord this summer but haven't seen enough of him to shell out a fee. The 22-year-old stopper was the club's only January arrival and has racked up just 71 minutes of game time. On loan from LOSC Lille, Fernandes' only start so far came in the humiliating Scottish Cup exit to Queen's Park and he hasn't played a second under Fergie. It'd be a major surprise if Rangers were to trigger a permanent move. Remember him? The man Michael Beale claimed would take Rangers to the "next level"? Well, recent reports in Greece have suggested that Gers will miss out on a £4million windfall as Aris Thessaloniki shy away from a permanent deal. Still under contract until 2027, the midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox and is certain to be offloaded one way or another. Despite showing early promise, academy graduate King is at the bottom of the defensive pecking order in Govan. Farmed out on loan to Queen's Park in February, the 21-year-old would be better served finding a permanent new home in the summer to kickstart his career. Davies has been a mainstay at the heart of Birmingham City's defence and confessed earlier this week that he'd consider joining on a permanent basis this summer. His comments will be music to the ears of Ibrox chiefs as they look to get the 29-year-old off the books. Blues boss Chris Davies has already confirmed that he plans to keep loan midfielder Dowell at St Andrew's on a long-term basis . The 27-year-old has made a big contribution to their title charge, scoring three times to help his side establish a nine point lead at the top of League One. German media have already written off Matondo's chances of landing a permanent move to Hannover 96 as the winger struggles to make his mark on loan. Matondo has managed just two starts in seven outings in the second tier, notching one goal and zero assists. Underwhelming to say the least, and Gers will be desperate to cut ties with the 24-year-old this summer. Cyriel Dessers is an easy target for Rangers fans but it's just as well the Ibrox side don't have to rely on £6m flop Danilo. The Brazilian striker seems to escape criticism despite the fact he's rarely been available since his big-money move from Feyenoord. Dessers has more than repaid his price tag with 45 goals in a century of games, Gers should look to recoup what they can for his teammate.
