'A Total Of 300 Runs...That's Not Our Aim': GT Skipper Shubman Gill Silences Talks Ahead Of IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill, on Wednesday, clarified his stance regarding an earlier statement where he said that T20 cricket is close to a stage where teams could start scoring 300 in an innings in the IPL, stating that it wasn’t meant to be the aim of GT going forward into IPL 2025.
Gill was speaking in an interview with JioHotstar ahead of the IPL’s 2025 season which begins on Saturday, where he stated how the changing landscape of T20 cricket opens up possibilities of teams even recording 300 runs in a single innings.
“The pace of the game has reached a point where it feels like we could score 300 in a match. Last year, we came very close on a few occasions. The Impact Player rule adds excitement and makes the IPL even more entertaining. One of the best aspects of the IPL is that every day, a new player emerges as a star,” said Gill to JioHotstar.
But, when asked about whether that was meant as a statement on Gujarat Titans’ potential style of play going into the new season, Gill clarified his stance.
“Firstly, I don’t think that as a team we are trying to chase a total of 300. That’s not our aim,” Gill clarified at GT’s press conference on Wednesday.
“We want to play the kind of cricket that helps us make the most of our situations. If the circumstances allow us to score 240, 250, or 260 runs, then we will choose to do that. However, there may also be instances where 150-160 could be a good total on a particular wicket”.
Gill then reinstated the importance of adaptability as the ‘hallmark’ of a great team, and the need for his team to always be ready to change as per the situation.
“I believe that, as a team, if you are looking to play in only one way, that is not optimal. The hallmark of a great team is the ability to adjust according to the conditions, and that is what we strive to be,” Gill exclaimed.
After failing to qualify for IPL playoffs for the first time in three seasons last year, Gujarat Titans would be looking to have a fresh crack at the new season of the Indian Premier League, which is set to go underway from March 22.
