Mikel Arteta's inability to win the Premier League despite coming close twice has irritated a former Arsenal captain

The Frenchman, who once wore the armband at the Emirates, believes Arsenal should have already won at least one Premier League title under Arteta but have consistently fallen short.
Gallas blames Arteta for Arsenal’s title failures
Arsenal have come painfully close to Premier League glory over the past two seasons, but for Gallas, falling short isn’t an accident; it’s a failure of management.
The former defender revealed he is fed up with the excuses, saying, "It’s unacceptable for Arsenal to be making the same mistakes year after year with the same manager.
"I don’t want to hear the excuses, I don’t want to hear about injuries. There are no excuses that are good enough when you’ve got a winning mentality.
"Signing a striker seems to be a blind spot for Arteta. That’s why Arsenal have finished second for two seasons running, and it will be an unwelcome hat-trick this season."
The former defender pointed out that Arsenal missed golden opportunities to strengthen their attack in both the 2023 and 2024 transfer windows, which he deems inexcusable for a club with title ambitions.
Arne Slot’s instant impact piles pressure on Arteta
One of the most damning comparisons Gallas makes is between Arteta and Arne Slot, Liverpool’s new boss.
The Dutchman is on course to win the Premier League in his debut season, something that Arteta has failed to do despite years of building his squad.
"Right now, Arteta is a good manager, not a world-class manager," Gallas declared. "A world-class manager makes the difference. A world-class manager wins titles.
"When you see Arne Slot, he’s in his first season, and nobody expected him to win the Premier League," he said. "He arrived with a big personality. Look what he’s done in one year."
With another season slipping away, the pressure is now on Arteta to deliver silverware or risk being remembered as the nearly-man of the Emirates era.
