Jessey Sneijder, the son of former Dutch soccer star Wesley Sneijder, has signed his first professional contract with FC Utrecht.
The Dutch side said in a statement that the 18-year-old midfielder has been signed until June 2028, with an option to extend the deal for another year.
Wesley Sneijder won Serie A, the Champions League and the Italian Cup with Inter Milan in 2010. He was also part of the Netherlands team that made it to the 2010 World Cup final, losing to Spain.
“This is a dream come true,” said Jessey Sneijder.
His father posted on Instagram a picture of both men holding the Utrecht jersey.
“I am so very proud of you,” Wesley Sneijder wrote. “Go to FC Utrecht at the age of 15 and sign your first contract after three years! Your perseverance and willpower have been rewarded.”
Wesley Sneijder: A Maestro of Modern Midfield
Born in Utrecht, Netherlands, in 1984, Sneijder rose through the famed Ajax youth academy, debuting for the senior team in 2002. His performances quickly drew international attention, and in 2007, he joined Spanish giants Real Madrid. There, he won La Liga in his debut season, showcasing his playmaking ability and lethal shot from distance.
However, it was at Inter Milan that Sneijder reached the pinnacle of his club career. Under José Mourinho, he was instrumental in Inter’s historic 2009–10 treble-winning campaign, claiming Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League. His creativity and tactical intelligence made him a vital cog in the midfield and a fan favorite.
On the international stage, Sneijder earned 134 caps for the Netherlands, becoming their most capped player. He was a key figure in the Dutch squad that reached the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, finishing as joint top scorer and being named to the tournament’s All-Star Team.
Sneijder retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy as one of the finest midfielders of his generation.
