Aaron Rodgers? Russell Wilson? Who cares. Giants mustn’t lose focus on No. 1 goal: Finding QB of future
@Source: nj.com
The Giants need not worry if Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson sign with them or not.
Sacrilege, I know.
Every fan is antsy to find out who the 2025 Week 1 starter is — especially after watching Daniel Jones almost every week for the past six seasons. With most of the big dominoes falling on Day 1, it’s natural to crave the two-second dopamine rush that a “Aaron Rodgers signs with the #Giants” tweet would bring.
But Giants fans can’t lose sight of the team’s No. 1 offseason goal: Finding the quarterback of the future.

None of these free agent QBs — not 26-year-old Justin Fields or 41-year-old Rodgers — ever had a realistic chance of being that. The Giants are set to face the toughest schedule in 2025, so all the top options would probably have had similar levels of failure in the short-term anyways. This offseason should be about the long-term.
It’s all about the 2025 draft.
This is why fans should actually root for the Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 pick in the draft, to sign a Wilson or a Rodgers. If they do, it would essentially confirm their willingness to trade down.
The Titans are desperate for a QB, but with a new general manager in Mike Borgonzi running the show, they can afford to be more patient with their rebuild. That said, if Borgonzi isn’t bullish about this weak QB class, he could throw a bag of money at Wilson, trade down with the Giants for a haul, and still feel great about his team’s direction. Punt on the QB question until next year’s draft, which is projected to be better.
This would obviously benefit Giants GM Joe Schoen, who would not only deliver on his QB promise, but also potentially buy some job security in the process (but only if Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders wind up being good).
To emphasize, though: This scenario only works if 1) Tennessee lands at least a respectable QB and 2) they’re open to a deal after.
If not, things could get grim.
Let’s say Rodgers signs with the Steelers (which is likely) and Wilson pivots and signs with the Vikings. Unless you’re a Jameis Winston believer, that leaves the Giants and Titans without even a decent bridge option.
That would all-but confirm that the Titans are selecting Ward at No. 1. The Browns, who are QB-needy too, could then snatch Sanders at No. 2. Then, as ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky warned Monday morning, the Giants would probably be left with… Jaxson Dart at No. 3 — which would be an all-time reach.
But again, we could avoid this potential doomsday scenario all together if Borgonzi decides he likes Wilson and doesn’t like this QB class. Sure, it’s a risk for the Giants, but you have to take a leap if you want to find your franchise face.
