The people deciding who walks away with an Oscar in 2026 will include Wicked star Ariana Grande; Sebastian Stan, who portrayed Donald Trump before the White House in The Apprentice; and Aubrey Plaza, whose movies include Emily the Criminal.
At least, all three have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year. The body announced Thursday that it had asked a total of 534 actors, as well as executives, to become members of its 10,000-plus member body.
While hundreds were invited, the snub of Emilia Perez star Karla Sofía Gascón, did not go unnnoticed. Gascón, who played the title character, was given a Best Actress nod, becoming the first openly transgender person to be nominated in an Oscars acting category.
Oscar nominees are automatically considered for membership, but it's not guaranteed they'll be asked. While branches of the organization, such as actors or writers, come up with recommendations, the 55-person Board of Governors makes the final decision.
The decision to leave Gascón off the list comes five months after she faced controversy over comments that she gave about her fellow nominee, Fernanda Torres, who was in I'm Still Here, and statements that she had made on social media that used language disparaging Islam.
Still, Emilia Perez won over critics, and it was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Zoe Saldaña won in the category of Best Supporting Actress, and the film was also awarded for Best Original Song.
EW has reached out to the Academy and reps for Gascón.

Among the actors who did make the cut were Torres, as well as Kieran Culkin, who won Best Supporting Actor for his turn in A Real Pain; Mikey Madison, who took home the Oscar for Best Actress for Anora; and Margaret Qualley, from Oscar winner The Substance.
Other familiar faces included those of Gillian Anderson, Jason Momoa, Naomi Ackie, Jodi Comer, Jeremy Strong, and Danielle Deadwyler.
Kramer and Janet Yang, president of the Academy, gave a statement: "We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy. Through their commitment to filmmaking and to the greater movie industry, these exceptionally talented individuals have made indelible contributions to our global filmmaking community."
