ACC Asks BCCI To Confirm Asia Cup Venue Citing Pressure From Sponsors: Report
@Source: news18.com
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly shot off a letter to the BCCI requesting a meeting with the Indian cricket board regarding the delay in announcement of Asia Cup 2025 schedule. The upcoming continental tournament will be hosted by the BCCI but there are reports that it may be held outside India in light of the border tensions between India and Pakistan. According to a report in Sports Tak, the ACC wants a meeting with the BCCI after facing pressure from the sponsors and media right holders who are worried about potential loss in revenue over the delay. India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in wake of the Pahalgam attack that left 26 dead. The escalation led to a big question mark over the fate of Asia Cup 2025. There are unconfirmed reports of the tournament being held in the UAE. A decision on the venue is yet to be taken. However, there have also been calls for India to boycott Pakistan in international tournaments. The two countries only play each other in global or continental with their last meeting coming at the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai. Asia Cup From September 5? Meanwhile, as per timesofindia.com, the Asia Cup is expected to get underway from September 5 with India and Pakistan set to clash on September 7. A 17-day window has been earmarked for the tournament that will see participation from six teams including India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and UAE. This year’s edition will be played in T20I format with the final to be held on September 21. India are the defending champions having won the tournament when it was last held in 2023. The BCCI had earlier this year denied it’s mulling over pulling our from the tournament. “The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had said in a statement. “… till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding ensuing ACC events, leave alone writing anything to the ACC.”
