Actor Russell Brand is facing rape and sexual assault charges, following a 2023 investigation. London’s Metropolitan Police announced April 4 that they charged Brand, 49, with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. AP News reports that the allegations emerged from several individuals, including a woman who alleged he raped her in England in 1999. Another woman reported being assaulted in London in 2001, while a third victim stated he orally raped and sexually assaulted her in London in 2004. Additionally, another victim alleged Brand sexually assaulted her in London between 2004 and 2005. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy commented, “The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers. The Met’s investigation remains open, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case or with information to come forward and speak with police.” Brand, who currently lives in the U.S., according to Deadline, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2. He could be detained by U.S. authorities under an international arrest warrant, prompting the Home Office to submit an extradition request to Washington for his return to Britain for trial.
