Adam Zampa Ruled Out Of IPL 2025, SRH Pick Smaran Ravichandran As Replacement

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to an injury. The franchise has signed promising Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran as a replacement.
IPL announced the change in a social media post on Monday (April 14). They only mentioned that Zampa was ‘injured’ without explaining the nature of the issue. Though Ravichandran can bowl a bit, he’s predominantly a top-to-middle-order batter who can play in a variety of gears and look elegant while doing so.
“Smaran Ravichandran has 7 First-Class games, 10 List A matches & 6 T20s and has over 1100 runs from these matches. The left-handed batter, who plays for Karnataka in Domestic Cricket, joins SRH for INR 30 Lakh,” IPL said in a statement.
Ravichandran went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction but his performances soon after that would’ve made many franchises regret their decision. He scored a match-winning century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final for Karnataka and more tons in the Ranji Trophy. These returns had followed his 302-run season in the Maharaja Trophy at an average of 43.14 and a strike rate of 145.19 representing the Gulbarga Mystics.
He was reportedly part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s pre-season nets and was even impressing the coaches. It’s difficult to see him get a chance in the SRH team immediately after getting in considering how strong their batting line-up is but if given a chance, there’s definitely a star to unearth.
“It has always been my mindset to win championships for your team, and because that feeling is just unreal,” Smaran told News18 CricketNext in an exclusive chat in February. “So, everything that I do, be it batting or fielding, revolves around making my team win and bringing the trophy home. So that will continue to be in my mindset, and I hope that I can bring trophies more for Karnataka.”

“The next season will kick off soon so the immediate goal would be to get the Ranji Trophy back home in the next year, back for Karnataka,” he added. “And obviously the long-term goal is to represent the country. I think that’s a byproduct of winning trophies for your team. So yeah, that would be the plan.”
