Hunters gun centre inspired by PNG’s NRL 2028 entry THE dream to play for PNG Kumuls, PNG’s entry into NRL in 2028 adds the extra fuel for Hunters centre, Alex Max. Currently playing in his second season with the Paul Aiton Hunters coached side, Max has been through a lot challenges especially injuries. “Inspires me the most.” “When I put on the jersey (Hunters) and come into training…everyday is like I have to keep on maintaining myself, stay fit and stay away from major injuries.” “Give my best in every game, maintain my spot, earn a spot in PNG PMs XIII, PNG Kumuls,” said Max. Upon hearing the news back then that PNG was official granted a NRL license to enter in 2028, Max was excited. “When I heard about it, I feel happy…excited.” “Boost and motivates me to play more stronger.” “Really inspires me to be consistent in every game,” said Max. His advice to upcoming footy youngsters is; be discipline, stay away from all the negative thoughts/activities. “Stay away from negative activities, stay positive and be discipline,” Since his debut last season (Round 4, Hunters V Tweed Seagulls), Max has scored 21 tries out from the 34 match appearances. He said each game is a big game for him. “I put myself in every positive way to play every game.” Coming through the school boys rugby league pathway back in Jiwaka, he had a stint with Waghi Tumbe (2022) as well as ENB Agmark Gurias (2023) in the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup before being signed by PNG Hunters. He said injuries and tough games encountered this season has enabled him and fellow teammates the extra push to end the last home game on a high note. “I’ve been consistently playing…due to injuries never backing down.”“Doing my rehab whilst training and listing to our physio who is really helpful to us.”
