KABUL (Pajhwok): Final preparations are underway for a tri-nation T20 series featuring Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, with an official announcement expected following the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dhaka. According to insiders cited by GEO Super TV, discussions surrounding the series will be finalized on the sidelines of the ACC sessions. The full schedule and venues are expected to be announced once the meetings conclude. Sources indicated that the series will take place in the UAE ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup, allowing participating teams to acclimate to local conditions. Originally, Afghanistan were set to tour Pakistan for a bilateral T20 series in August. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggested converting the tour into a tri-nation event and relocating it to the UAE. Meanwhile, the Asian Cricket Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being held Thursday in Bangladesh, with 24 out of 25 member nations confirming attendance—well above the required quorum of 13. This marks a diplomatic win for ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, especially after initial objections from the BCCI, Sri Lanka Cricket, and Oman Cricket regarding the venue. Significantly, India is also taking part virtually, with BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla expected to join the meeting online, signaling a softening of the board’s earlier stance. Separately, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Sayed Naseem Sadat earlier told Pajhwok Afghan News that the national team was scheduled to play T20 and ODI series this year against Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and the UAE. He confirmed that Afghanistan will play three T20 matches against Pakistan, originally planned to be hosted by Pakistan.
