Pre-match joy for one fan
A hot start, Demons
After a shaky start, the Demons have got hot, booting three straight goals. Trent Rivers’ mark over Murphy Reid at half-forward, and subsequent goal, summed up a better connection in an area of the ground the Demons have struggled in. We will see if this lasts.
Goal: A third for the Dees
Trent Rivers joins the action. Melbourne have three goals in five minutes. It’s a cracking, fast-paced start at the MCG.

Goal: Petty for Melbourne
Harrison Petty puts the Demons into the lead.
Melbourne 2.0 (12) lead Fremantle 1.0 (6). Q1, 7.04 minutes
Demons make a statement
The Demons made another statement - Clayton Oliver started on the bench.
Winless after five rounds, Goodwin maintained he was still the man to lead the Demons.
“Absolutely,” he said pre-game. “One thing I haven’t lost belief in is my ability to coach and this playing group. I absolutely believe in this playing group. We are trying to play a different way with the ball but we have to got to match it what we do without the ball,” Goodwin told Fox Footy.
Goal: Demons on the board
It’s Kysaiah Pickett. A great snap effort. We’ve got a contest.

Expectation on the Demons
Goal: Dockers on the board early
Andrew Brayshaw. Set shot. Clean kick. Terrific start by the visitors.
Viney to head to Serong
Simon Goodwin has revealed Jack Viney will tag Dockers’ prime mover Caleb Serong today. “Give him a task and let him get to work. Give Jack a task … he is very task orientated,” Goodwin told Fox Footy.
Goodwin said the Demons had no choice but to make a major call at selection, dumping underperforming forwards Jacob Van Rooyen and Bailey Fritsch. “I feel like we are in a position where we had no choice. We needed to make some change. We had a couple of guys that needed to get back into some form. But first and foremost, it was about getting some pressure down in our forward 50. Everyone is understanding of where it’s at and what we need to do,” Goodwin said.
