The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its offensive against criminal elements across the state, recording major breakthroughs in a series of coordinated operations that led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of eight stolen or snatched vehicles, alongside other incriminating exhibits.
The Command announced these successes in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday, noting that the operations underscore its unwavering resolve to rid the state of crime and ensure public safety.
According to the statement, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team struck on August 21, 2025, arresting three suspects identified as Eze Obinna (44), Jideofor Igwumba (35), and Martina Okwor Ada (49). The operatives also recovered a Toyota Kluger (Highlander SUV) reportedly stolen on July 21 at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, which had been refurbished and was already being prepared for sale in Awka, Anambra State.
In another operation, conducted on August 19, operatives attached to Ozalla Police Division intercepted suspected criminals along the Udi/Ozalla Road. One of the suspects, Somadina Udeh (26), was arrested, while others escaped. Security agents recovered the gang’s operational vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with Delta registration number ASB 108 YF, while the fleeing suspects abandoned another Toyota Hiace bus with Ebonyi registration number AKL 163 YU, earlier stolen from Amokwe in Udi Local Government Area. Interrogations revealed that the syndicate often infiltrated Enugu from Anambra to burgle shops, cart away goods, and resell them in Anambra State.
Similarly, on August 12, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, acting on intelligence, apprehended Chigozie Ebisike (42) in Ogui, Enugu, with a blue Toyota Corolla. The arrest followed intelligence received through the state’s Command-and-Control Centre, which had earlier tracked the vehicle being used in a car-snatching incident on August 3 along Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu. Ebisike later confessed to involvement in car theft and snatching, leading to the recovery of two more vehicles—a gold Toyota Sienna minivan (BDG 935 GP) and a black Lexus 350 (UWN 762 AH)—as well as several vehicle keys, registration documents, and number plates.
The Command further disclosed that on August 8, operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad arrested three robbery suspects, Nwafor Chinenye (35), Chidera Ezeoha (32), and Ekete Joseph (41), following a reported armed robbery in Amokpu-Nike, Enugu East, where a Carter Tec Super motorcycle and a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone were stolen. The suspects were caught attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle, alongside another, at Ogbeke-Nike, Enugu East, with both exhibits recovered. They have since been arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility.
The statement added that other arrested suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, while manhunts are ongoing to apprehend their fleeing accomplices and recover more stolen items.
Commending the gallantry of his officers, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reassured residents that the police will sustain its tempo in the fight against crime. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities around them to the nearest police formation.
