Saudi Pro League champions are aiming to sign Super Eagles star before the Club World Cup.
Saudi Pro League defending champions Al Hilal are reportedly preparing an audacious move for Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey ahead of the Club World Cup.
The 25-year-old left-footed centre-back is a mainstay for Fulham and the Nigerian national team. He joined the Cottagers in 2023 from Ajax and has a contract until 2027, with an option to extend until 2028.
However, that could be cut short, as the record Saudi League champion, Al Hilal, has the Italy-born star high on their wish list.

Al Hilal’s interest
According to a report from ArabNewsSport, the Blue Waves have registered interest in Bassey, as they are working on improving their squad ahead of the Club World Cup in the summer.
They are reportedly prepared to offer him a four-plus-one-year contract with a salary of €8 million per annum, a significant bump from his current €2.7 million at Fulham.
Bassey is valued at €25 million. However, Fulham could ask for higher given his importance to Marco Silva's side. However, Al Hilal are one of the richest clubs in the world, given their PIF backing.
The Saudi-based team won the league last season; however, they have dipped slightly this term and are currently four points behind Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad in the title race.
Al-Za’eem are the Pro League's representatives at the tournament, and the Saudi outfit are keen on impressing at the global showpiece staged in the USA; hence, they are looking to leverage the rule that allows clubs in the competition to sign players and use them, even if it precedes the transfer window's opening. They reportedly view Bassey as a talent that could help them achieve their goals.
