Alison Hammond has admitted that she’s ‘scared’ as a campaign surrounding the This Morning presenter has gotten ‘serious’. The beloved TV personality’s comments arrive on a week where pop star Katy Perry entered space on her Blue Origin trip. Singing Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World took the stars, Katy was part of a six-woman crew on Amazon owner Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard NS-31. With the story gaining a lot of attention, BBC Radio One DJ Greg James has tasked himself with making a new space team made up of ‘UK huns’. After asking fans to send in their suggestions, a campaign has begun to send Alison, Loose Women’s Denise Welch, EastEnders Natalie Cassidy , Gemma Collins and Carol Vorderman to space. A number of photoshopped images of the UK stars have begun to circulate on social media, including one of them kitted out in matching astronaut uniforms. Among those backing the campaign is Virgin’s Richard Branson, with the billionaire said to be keen to make the proposed trip a reality. On Wednesday’s (April 16) episode of This Morning , Alison and Dermot O’Leary were joined by Greg James to discuss the possibility of her actually boarding a rocket ship. “I was joking earlier when I went on your show and I said ‘yeah’, now it’s gotten a little bit serious and I’m like Richard Branson is really going to make us go up there," she said. “I don’t know if I want to do it, I’m scared… It’s a beautiful team, but I’d rather we just went on a night out and do some karaoke." According to Greg , who has messaged Richard, the campaign may have gone viral due to the ‘silliness’, but ‘people are really up for it’ “Branson is keen to get involved with the International Space Station Hun. All this morning, live on the show, I composed a message to Branson because he followed me last night on Instagram. I sent a really considered message. “He messaged last night to say 'I’m Virgin Atlantic’s astronaut 001, time for astronaut 00Hun'. He’s so up for this.” On top of this, Greg has reached out to all of the stars included in the campaign, with the majority already revealing they’re interested. He explained: “Cassidy’s involved, she’s up for it. Denise Welch seems up for it. Voldermon’s there. Gemma Collins called into the show this morning and she said she’d be well up for it. She did say she’s claustrophobic so she’s worried about that. “Voldermon was very sincere because she’s an engineer and loves space travel , where Gemma Collins said ‘I just want the band deals, I’m going to make an absolute fortune’.” Teasing that he wants to get involved, Dermot said: “As Alison’s official representative, if Branson wants her then we have to discuss this over dinner at Necker island. Then we can sign the deal.”
