‘Always Been Tough to Shine’: Kane Williamson Casts Skepticism On Saliva Efficiency In White Ball After BCCI Reverses Policy

Former New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson expressed his scepticism over the usage of saliva in the IPL 2025 season after the BCCI revoked the policy. The Kiwi star said that it may not have much of an impact on white-ball cricket. However, Williamson feels that it could offer some relief to the bowlers. The ban over the use of saliva to shine the ball has been one of the hotly debated subjects. Ever since Mohammed Shami raised his voice regarding ICC's ban, the notion has come to light, with Veron Philander and Tim Southee also voicing their opinion to revoke the ban. The chatter led to the BCCI also having an internal discussion regarding the matter, and the rule was eventually reversed by the BCCI for the 18th edition of the IPL. However, Kane Williamson feels the usage of saliva may not have a significant impact on the white ball. "Over my time in white ball cricket, it's always been quite tough to shine the white ball. Whether it (saliva ban removal) has a large impact or not, I guess we'll find out. I suppose any sort of help in shining might add some benefit."If it does swing then it really does bring the seam bowlers, the swing bowlers into the game a lot more. The fantastic pitches to bat on in general in the IPL, the boundaries are often on the smaller side. Having the ball swing a little bit more and if saliva can help that, I think will be great for the competition," Kane Williamson said while interacting with the media, as quoted by PTI.Also Read: Wet Conditions Thwart KKR & RCB's Practice Ahead Of IPL 2025 Gameday, Rainfall Scare Continues In KolkataKane Williamson failed to find any suitors in the IPL mega auction, which would lead up to the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League.
