Amazon Prime Video has ordered a docuseries that will go behind the scenes of the Australian Football League (AFL) from the U.K. sports documentary specialists at Box to Box, the production company behind Netflix’s cycling docuseries Tour de France: Unchained, golf docuseries Full Swing, tennis docuseries Break Point and the worldwide phenomenon that is Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The untitled docuseries will cover the goings-on during the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership season, and filming will begin this week, and will launch on Prime Video worldwide sometime in 2026. The series will follow the winning Box to Box formula of going behind the scenes, offering viewers unprecedented levels of access and capturing some of the seldom-seen drama. As well as appealing to Aussie AFL fans, the docuseries will offer global audiences a unique insight into the sport that dominates conversation and culture in Australia. “The league is excited to join forces with Box To Box and Prime Video to bring more fans closer to the game,” Bec Haagsma, AFL executive general manager customer and commercial, added in a statement. “We love that new audiences will be connected to our stories and our game through this series, and our fans will enjoy finding even more reasons to love footy and its characters. Aussie Rules Football is intricately entwined with the Australian way of life and is full of wonderful characters, storylines and emotions that tie people together from all walks of life. This series is an important asset for the AFL as we aim to have footy in every household in the country, and introduce our game, and our stories, to international audiences.” THR Newsletters Sign up for THR news straight to your inbox every day ITV Studios ITV Studios Buys Majority Stake in Spanish ‘Valeria’ Producer Plano a Plano international Disney+ Sets Release Date for K-Drama Tentpole ‘Tempest’ Starring Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon ‘Next Gen NYC’ Creator on How ‘RHOSLC’ Led to New Bravo Show and Shutting Down “Nepo” Baby Skeptics: “It’s a Fun Situation” Rose Leiman Goldemberg, Who Wrote ‘The Burning Bed,’ Starring Farrah Fawcett, Dies at 97 ‘Squid Game’ Stars Byung Hun Lee and Yim Siwan to Make KCON L.A. 2025 Appearances The Fien Print Critic’s Notebook: Ozzy Osbourne Created the Template for Reality TV Celebrity Reinvention, From Flavor Flav to Donald Trump The Hollywood Reporter is a part of Penske Media Corporation. © 2025 The Hollywood Reporter, LLC.
