@Source: newsweek.com
It's the week of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are already at the TPC Louisiana defending their title. McIlroy returns to action after winning the Masters Tournament, while Lowry is coming off a tie for 18th at the RBC Heritage last week.As tee time approaches, memories of McIlroy and Lowry's dramatic victory a year ago will be in the forefront. So have memories of what happened afterward, including the Northern Irishman's no less spectacular performance at the after-party.The video of McIlroy singing Journey's mega-hit "Don't Stop Believin" has once again become ubiquitous on social media. The clip, which went viral in the hours after his victory a year ago, has been reposted by numerous users and has once again racked up hundreds of thousands of views.The video shows McIlroy and Lowry on stage, the former singing karaoke while the latter laughs along. Hundreds of fans in attendance captured the moment on their phones.A year ago, McIlroy and Lowry shot a 61 in the first round (fourballs) with 11 birdies and no bogeys. A day later (foursomes) they did not fare as well, carding a 70 with four birdies and a bogey.On Moving Day (foursomes), they scored low again, carding a 64 with eight bogey-free birdies. Finally, on Sunday, they played the foursomes format much better than two days earlier, carding seven birdies and three bogeys for a 68.However, this was only good enough for a share of the lead with Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer on 25 under. It was the third playoff in the event's current format and the first since 2021.McIlroy and Lowry only needed the first hole of the sudden death to win, as they made par on the hole (foursomes) while their rivals bogeyed."Absolutely amazing," McIlroy said about the victory. "I think, yeah, to win any PGA Tour event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends...we've known each other for a long, long time. Probably like over 20 years. So, to think about where we met and where we've come from, to be on this stage and do this together, really, really cool journey that we've been a part of, and yeah, just awesome to be able to do it alongside this guy."It was McIlroy's 25th victory on the PGA Tour, the first of the 2024 season. For Lowry, it was his third title on the American-based circuit, his first since 2019.More Golf: Jordan Spieth's Ryder Cup Spot in Jeopardy Despite Strong Masters Showing
