Amorim drops Andre Onana for Man United's Newcastle clash after Lyon horror show

Andre Onana has been dropped for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Newcastle today. The decision to bench Onana for the match at St James' Park comes from manager Ruben Amorim, following the goalie's midweek mishaps in United's 2-2 draw with Lyon . The Cameroon international was left behind when United travelled to Newcastle yesterday, paving the way for Altay Bayindir to make his Premier League debut against the Toon Army. Onana, who was responsible for both of Lyon's goals in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, is expected to be back in action for Thursday's return leg at Old Trafford - unless Bayindir impresses enough to retain his spot. Despite Amorim expressing confidence in Onana after the draw in Lyon, where the 29-year-old let in a last-minute equaliser, the United coach has decided to give his beleaguered No. 1 a break today and sit out the game. Onana has been grappling with personal issues off the pitch, as his wife fell victim to a street robbery last week, necessitating round-the-clock protection for the family. Melanie Kamayou was targeted by a thief who stole her £62,000 Hermes bag and Rolex watch while she was getting out of her car to meet a friend for dinner in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, reports the Mirror . Despite these off-field troubles, Onana continued to play for United, although his performances this season have come under fire. Ex-United star Nemanja Matic has slammed Onana as "one of the worst keepers in United's history" following the goalie's claim that Amorim's squad was "way better" than Lyon before their match. Onana clapped back, pointing out that, unlike Matic, he's bagged a trophy with United, nabbing the FA Cup last season after trouncing Manchester City at Wembley. Turkey's Bayindir was back in action for United at Nottingham Forest after being sidelined for nine matches due to injury. He's previously only been seen in domestic cups and the Europa League, making seven appearances, but now he's set to make his Premier League debut. Newcastle also have injury worries with doubts over stars Isak and Gordon ahead of today's game. Isak has been linked to much transfer speculation with Liverpool and others expressing an interest.
