'An accident waiting to happen': DX lorries blocking Willenhall roads cause safety concerns
@Source: expressandstar.com
The video shows queues of HGVs lined up along Ashmore Lake Way, where the depot is located, and Clarkes Lane, one of Willenhall’s main through roads. Locals say the problem is worse on Ashmore Lake Way, with one claiming it is blocked every night from 9pm. Complaints include cars having to overtake on the opposite side of the road, and because the lorries park so closely, there are no passing places for overtaking vehicles. The footage posted online gathered hundreds of comments with other residents sharing similar experiences of disruption, safety risks, and delays. Among the comments were two individuals working for the ambulance service who said the issue was a ‘constant problem’. Many said the DX operations have outgrown the Willenhall depot. The situation has been ongoing for some time, with councillors in Short Heath in the past describing it as ‘dangerous and unacceptable’. DX has been approached by the Local Democracy Reporting Service for comment. A spokesperson for Walsall Council said: “We are aware of the situation on Ashmore Lake Way. Currently, there are no parking restrictions on this road. “We will, however, work with DX to understand the cause behind this situation and consider options to ensure our roads remain safe for everyone.” A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve been made aware of concerns over parking and vehicles causing an obstruction in the area. We have spoken with relevant parties to try and assist in resolving these concerns.”
