Anaheim Hills briefs: Ebell Club helps get local students ready for school year

Members of the Ebell Club of Canyon Hills recently participated in a back-to-school drive, donating more than $1,000 in essential supplies for students in need in the Orange Unified School District. First vice presidents, philanthropy Heather Terjung and Donna Frize organized the service project and delivered numerous boxes filled with such necessities as pens, pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks and spiral notebooks to the district office, which will then be distributed to students in need throughout its campuses in Anaheim Hills, Orange and Villa Park. Membership in the nonprofit Ebell Club is open to all women within the community interested in fun, friendship and helping the community. Show thanks and have fun Mark your calendar for the 46th annual Dozynki Harvest Festival in September at the Pope John Paul II Polish Center. The two-day event offers an opportunity to experience Polish culture through traditional Polish foods, Polish folk dancers in traditional costumes, games for kids and a special concert from the band Trio Stekla led by famous vocalist and Poland actress Paulina Stekla. Additionally, the Pope John Paul II Polish Center is raffling off cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000, as well as many other raffle prizes. Raffle tickets are available for $5 each. Dozynki is a celebration of thanksgiving after a bountiful harvest dating back to 16th-century Poland and has remained a long-standing tradition within Polish communities throughout the world, including the United States and Canada. The festival will noon to 11 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 21. The Polish Center is at 3999 Rose Drive in Yorba Linda. Library group have Dog Days sale The Friends of Canyon Hills Library is inviting the community to its “Dog Days of Summer Sale” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 27 at the branch. Come check out the various fiction, non-fiction, special interest and children’s books available at bargain prices. The sale also features many puzzles and other specialty items. Proceeds from the book sale enable the nonprofit Friends group to provide many programs and services at the library branch. Contact the library at 714-765-6444 for more information. Have a fashionable lunch with Women’s Connection The Anaheim, Orange and Villa Park Women’s Connection is extending an invitation to all women in the community to attend a “Fashions thru the Decades” luncheon on Sept. 8 at the Black Gold Golf Club. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., for socializing and shopping from onsite vendors. Luncheon and the fashion show start at 11:30 a.m., and the day concludes at 1:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in a favorite decade and may even be selected to model their outfit. Talented singer Judy Talbot will provide the afternoon entertainment and guest speaker Carol Abernathie will share, “The Song of the Wild One.” The cost to attend is $35 and those interested should contact Barbi Zipperian at 714-280-9062 by Aug. 25. Luncheon planned for Hope Restored India Save the date for the fifth annual Hope Restored India Fashion Show Benefit Luncheon on Oct. 18 at Calvary Chapel East Anaheim. All women in the community are invited. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., with a silent auction and raffle opportunities, followed by the luncheon and fashion show with guest commentator Carol Latham starting at 11 a.m., featuring fashions by La Galleria Boutique. All proceeds from the $55 per person ticket price benefit Hope Restored India, a ministry working with women and children affected by human trafficking in India.
