Animal control officer saves squirrel: Rocky River Police Blotter

Theft, Hampton Road
On March 18 a resident reported her car was stolen from the driveway sometime overnight. The woman left the key fob in the car and the car was unlocked. The GPS system led officers to Pearl Road in Cleveland, where they found the car. An investigation is pending.
Animal rescue, Wagar Road
On March 18 a resident reported a squirrel stuck in a soccer net. The animal control officer was able to release the squirrel, who climbed into a nearby tree. He had some netting stuck to his tail, but was otherwise okay.
Handgun, Interstate 90
On March 18 an officer stopped a driver for speeding and no license plate light near Detroit Road. The driver, a 22-year-old Sheffield Lake man, also had a suspended driver’s license.
Officers asked the driver several times if there was anything illegal in the car, which he denied, however during a search of the vehicle officers found a handgun. The driver was arrested for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability, and cited for speed and license plate light required.
