Ann Arbor-area sports highlights: Clutch hit is key to last-inning win

In a battle of the pitchers, it was crucial offense late that sealed the deal.
After a defensive struggle, Ann Arbor Greenhillls’ baseball team finally broke through as Kade Mason’s game-winning single secured a 3-1 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln on Thursday.
Mason drove in two runs with the hit and Fran Love closed out the game with three outs and zero hits allowed in the final two innings.
Ethan Berry started the game for the Gryphons and was consistent with eight strikeouts and only one hit allowed.
Chris Samuelson had the lone hit and RBI for Lincoln. Michael Stone also struck out seven on the mound for the Railsplitters.
Whitmore Lake 12, Oakland Christian 8; Oakland Christian 7, Whitmore Lake 5
Donovan Fox led Whitmore Lake in the doubleheader with seven hits, while Curtis Bower added four hits and an RBI and Devon Cervantes chipped in with two hits and three runs batted in.
James Burns earned the win in Game 1 with six strikeouts and Bower struck out five batters in Game 2.
Skyline 11, Ann Arbor Huron 2
The Eagles completed the three-game sweep this week with Thursday’s win. Skyline notched four runs in the fourth inning to seize control of the contest.
Landry Jobe led the way with two hits, two RBIs and a home run, while Connor Rzeszut had two hits and drove in two runs and Max Johnson drove in three runs.
Jack Kidle secured the win on the mound with eight strikeouts.
Chelsea 14, Parma Western 1; Chelsea 16, Parma Western 3
The Bulldogs cruised to both victories on Thursday.
Avery Lay earned the win in Game 1 by striking out 10 batters. Lay finished the doubleheader with three hits and seven RBIs and two home runs.
In addition, Ashley Sherwood collected three home runs, four hits and seven RBIs, Kaydee Absher had a homer, five hits and four RBIs, Mia Kuboushek drove in three runs and Ella Root and Brooke Barlage each homered.
Lilly McCalla took the win in the second game as she struck out six batters. McCalla also had two hits.
Saline 2, Walled Lake Northern 1; Saline 11, Walled Lake Northern 4
Sydney Hastings had four hits and two RBIs, Reese Rupert had three hits and three RBIs, and Ava Stripp had two hits and two RBIs. Elizabeth Onyskin also drove in two runs.
Abby Curtis earned the win in Game 1 as she struck out 16 batters and allowed just two hits. Jessi Phelps struck out five batters to take home the win in the nightcap.
GIRLS SOCCER
Dexter 1, Temperance Bedford 0
Jillian Lower scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Gracie Koch to push the Dreadnaughts to 3-0 on the season.
Goalkeeper Bianca Smothers earned the shutout win for Dexter.
GIRLS TENNIS
Dexter 7, Temperance Bedford 1
The Dreadnaughts won three of the singles flights as Brynlee Williams (No. 1), Siena Taylor (No. 2) and Cameron Boyce (No. 3) all took home victories.
Dexter swept the doubles flights with Tess Baughman and Sydney Suppes (No. 1), Phoebe Matos and Claire Beneteau (No. 2), Katelyn Seeland and Lydia Cebulski (No. 3) and Olivia Munker and Charlotte Etzel (No. 4) all securing wins.
Ann Arbor Skyline 7, Jackson 1
The Eagles earned three singles victories with Stephanie Chen (No. 2), Evangelina Ewing-Sohtun (No. 3) and Eden Lee (No. 4) earning wins.
Skyline’s doubles team of Niya Patel and Kate Wolfe (No. 1), Sarina Thomas and Lindsey Chou (No. 2), Eda Kirca and Lilian Cui (No. 3) and Mira Kustarz and Maja Kwaiser (No. 4) all finished with victories.
Lincoln wins tri-match
The Railsplitters had three golfers place in the top five to edge Adrian 171-172 at Carrington golf course.
Mason Sancho and Curtis Harding tied for second after shooting a 40 and Austin Rose placed fifth with a 44. Quinn Wilkerson and Brayden Long tied for ninth with a 47.
Ann Arbor Pioneer 156, Pinckney 194
The Pioneers had the top six finishers in the match led by Ryan Boehnke, who won with a score of 37. Yumin Jang shot a 38 and Cael Finnane shot a 40.
Dexter ties for win
The Dreadnaughts tied Tecumseh with a score of 165 in a tri-meet on Thursday.
Dexter had four golfers finish in the top seven to earn the first-place split. Carson Zaski shot a 40 to take fourth, while Evan Naylor (41) took sixth and Braden Richards and Nick Bearman tied for seventh with a 42.
