The latest annual list of community grant recipients has been presented to a North Lanarkshire Council committee. The council’s community grants scheme provides small amounts to local groups, supporting local projects and activities. Recipients can use the cash to cover various costs such as equipment, events, training, publicity, start-up expenses and administration. For the 2024/2025 period the total budget was just over £100,000, working out at £1300 for consideration per individual councillor. The scheme is open to religious groups if their project is open to all and does not promote a particular faith or view, while parent council are able to pursue funding for activities they run outside school hours. Individuals, profit distributing organisations, private clubs, political parties, and trade unions are all ineligible for funding. Only a fraction of almost 200 groups which received funding were given the maximum grant award of £1000. They were Plains Primary School Parent Council, Bellshill South Senior Citizens’ Club, Spindlehowe Residents’ Association, Viewpark Family Centre Association, YMCA Bellshill and Mossend, Balloch Eastfield FC, Cumbernauld Resilience, Croy Silver Band, 6th Motherwell Scout Group, Firpark and Clydeview Parent Council, Gartcosh Parent and Toddler Playgroup, Coltness Community Council, Newmains and District Gala Day, 5th Airdrie Scouts, Airdrie Arts Guild Drama Group, Bellshill St Andrews United Free Church of Scotland, Cliftonville & Coatdyke Community Group, Community Volunteers Enabling You, Open Water Rescue, Palacerigg Golf Club, Scottish Ethnic Minority Sports Association, Shotts EU Congregational Church and St Andrew’s Hospice. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
