'Any Team With Jasprit Bumrah In Is A Better Team': Michael Clarke's No-Nonsense Take On India's Ace

Jasprit Bumrah's workload management policy is a hot topic of debate in the cricket fraternity. Bumrah broke down in Australia after playing all five Tests, and it became important for the BCCI to manage his workload. Bumrah is arguably the most skilled Indian bowler, but India have won more games when he is not featuring in the playing XI. On the England tour, Bumrah played three Tests, and India lost two while they managed to draw one at Manchester. In the two games that Bumrah didn't play, India picked up wins and drew the series. Following the series draw in England, many downplayed Bumrah's value as Mohammed Siraj stepped up to take charge of the leader of the attack. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke reacted to the Jasprit Bumrah debate and said that any team with Jasprit Bumrah is a better team. “To win the last match and level the series. Wow! Phenomenal, absolutely brilliant. And the other thing as well. In the two Test matches that India won, the best bowler in the world didn’t play in (Jasprit) Bumrah. Bumrah didn’t play the two Test matches that India won. So, to the other bowlers in the Indian squad, they deserve a lot of credit to be able to step up. And I do believe, and I don’t think anybody would say differently, any team with Bumrah in it is a better team. But to be able to win those two matches without him, that bowling attack deserves a lot of credit,” Clarke said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. Clarke also lavished praise on Mohammed Siraj and said that he always steps up when Jasprit Bumrah is not around. Siraj had a magnificent outing in the series and picked 23 wickets to end up as the leading wicket-taker of the series. He was instrumental in India drawing the series and picked up five wickets in the second innings of the Oval Test to help India win by six runs. “India bowling again, Krishna, Siraj. Wow! I feel like every time Bumrah is not around, Siraj has this – ‘I’ve got to stand up’ mindset and attitude. He wants the ball when the team is under pressure. I feel like he’s a better bowler when there is more expectation and pressure put on his shoulders. I think he really enjoys that role in the team. Fifer in the second innings, just to keep it going,” Clarke added.
