Area Notes: Intro to Track and Field event returns, Berkshire Force tournament; Memorial Day 5K; Berkshire Thunder and Lightning club

The Berkshire Force 12U softball program will host its first tournament starting tonight at the Doyle Complex.
The Berkshire Blast tournament will run Friday through Sunday at 561 Benedict Road in Pittsfield.
The Force will play tonight at 6 p.m., followed by a tripleheader on Saturday. Games are at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday's schedule is TBD.
The Force have been playing since April 19 and amassed a record of 8-3. Most recently, the 12U squad went 5-1 at a tournament last Saturday-Sunday. This Force team went to the Babe Ruth Softball World Series last summer.
Intro to Track and Field
A youth track and field event will be held on Sunday at Taconic High School as part of Mental Health Awareness Month and the Movember project.
This will be the third annual Intro to Track and Field event and it will run from 10 a.m. to noon.
Coaches will demonstrate proper form and technique for various events, while also highlighting the benefits that youth sports and physical activity have on mental health.
Local agencies and organizations like the Brien Center, Berkshire Coalition for Suicide Prevention, 18 Degrees, Love of T and NAMI Berkshire County.
Anyone over the age of 8 is invited to participate. You can register at Intro_to_Track.eventbrite.com or check-in starting at 9:30 a.m. on the front fields at Taconic.
Memorial Day 5K
The Lee Lions Club is celebrating Memorial Day with their second annual Memorial Day 5K to benefit Berkshire Veterans Outreach.
The race starts at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning at Saint Mary's School, 115 Orchard Street in Lee.
Registration is available at BerkshireRunningCenter.com and is $30 until May 25, and $35 on day-of. The fee includes a race shirt, course support, cash prizes and a post-race beer and s'mores.

Youth Track and Field Club
The Berkshire Thunder and Lightning Youth Track and Field club will begin its summer program on Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m. at Taconic High School.
Interested athletes are asked to meet at the soccer fields on front of the school.
The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday’s from 9 to 10 a.m.
"The club will teach boys and girls proper conditioning and training techniques and also introduce several track and field events coached by local cross country and track coaches. It is open to any youth interested and is free of charge," reads a release.
