The 29-year-old joined the Bavarians from Manchester City in 2020 with a lot of promise, but has failed to live up to projections.
He is one the Bayern Munich players nearing the end of their contract, and while the club has sealed new deals for Alphonso Davies and Jamaal Musiala, and are said to be in advanced talks with Joshua Kimmich for a renewal, there has been no significant update regarding Sane. Hence, the likes of Arsenal are plotting a move for the German in the free agency market.
The details
According to the Sun, Mikel Arteta, who previously coached Sane during their shared stint at Manchester City remains a fan of the former Schalke winger, as is contemplating bringing him to the Emirates.
The Gunners suffered this season due to their lack of offensive depth after injuries to Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka. Although they preempted the problem with the loan signing of Raheem Sterling last summer, the England international was too significant a downgrade to the options he replaced in the team.
Arsenal are expected to make significant investment in their offensive line in the summer. With the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko linked to them, they Emirates landlords are expected to make a major financial outlay for a striker. Hence, signing a player the quality of Sane for free is viewed as favourable to their overall summer plans.
