Wolves forward Matheus Cunha could become the first Arsenal signing under new sporting director Andrea Berta , according to ex-Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere. Arsenal announced that Berta would take on the important role after four-month search for Edu's replacement. The Italian is set to be a focal figure this summer as Arsenal embark on search for world class signings that can take them to the next level and finally break their Premier League title drought. Berta is likely to pursue moves for a new left winger and midfielder, but a striker is set to be highest on his priority list after the team were left without a recognised No 9 following a huge injury crisis. Arsenal were linked with a host of new strikers in January, including Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins - who they made a late bid for - but will now turn their attentions to snapping one up in the summer. Aliadiere, who played 51 games for the Gunners, believes Berta could swoop for Cunha after developing a relationship with him when the pair were at Atletico Madrid. He told AceOdds : "Berta knows Cunha from their time at Atletico Madrid and it could be a deal that goes through. "He’s having a great season in a team that’s struggling to fight relegation. That shows you how good he is and how quickly he’s adapted to the Premier League. He could be a good signing too." Cunha has scored 13 Premier League goals for Wolves and has helped the club stay away from the threat of relegation. There was speculation he could leave in January before he penned a new extension until 2028. However, that new deal is said to contain a release clause that will allow him to leave Molineux for £62.5m this summer, putting the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal on alert. According to the BBC , the release clause can only be activated by interested clubs at the end of the season and should give Wolves a sizeable profit on a player they signed for £35m in 2023. Cunha himself has already talked up an exit after recently claiming he wanted a new challenge with a team that could battle for titles. "I had a lot of offers (to leave in January) but I wouldn't feel well if I had done it,' he said. "Some things you can't control but I couldn't leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone. Now, we're close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I've made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential."
