As Shoppers Cut Back on Spending, Live TV Streaming Services Aim to Attract Subscribers with Up to 70 Percent Off

Cord-cutters have a wealth of options in the streaming age.
After YouTube TV raised its prices at the end of 2024, live TV subscribers are comparing online cable alternatives to find out where to get the most bang for their streaming buck. And streamers are more than happy to appeal to potential customers’ pocketbooks: DirecTV began offering no-contract plans and recently launched Genre Packs starting at $34.99 per month, joining its existing lineup of Signature Packages that offer more expansive options starting at $79.99 per month.

YouTube’s monthly subscription (from $82.99 per month) is now the same price as Hulu + Live TV, which also offers ESPN+ and Disney+ in addition to over 95 local and national news, entertainment and sports channels. Some of the best live TV streaming services also include Sling, which starts at $45.99 per month and offers 30 to 40 or more channels; and Fubo, which offers plans at $84.99 and up with over 200 channels.
However, some streaming services continue to raise prices — even as they new subscribers with bundles and ad-supported tiers. Netflix raised prices by $1 to $2 earlier this year), Discovery+ is now $1 higher per month and NBCUniversal hiked up the price of Peacock by $2 per month last year ahead of the Paris Olympics.
