Aston Villa boss Unai Emery vents his anger following Liverpool decision
@Source: mirror.co.uk
Unai Emery has slammed the fixture chaos that could wreak havoc with Aston Villa’s season.
The Spaniard is upset at the workload his club is being asked to undertake after yet more changes to Villa’s schedule.
The Champions League chasers will now play their FA Cup Fifth Round tie at home to Cardiff City just three days after a trip to south London to face Crystal Palace. That means Villa will play three days in seven days - and Emery has also called into question the timing of next week’s tussle against Liverpool.
Villa initially asked the Premier League to use a date later in the season - but that was rejected. And Emery isn’t happy.
He said: “Football is changing, that is clear. More contact, more duels, more injured players. This is the reality because physically it is stronger than 30 years ago.
“We have to adapt quickly to these circumstances, how we can manage the time better between matches.
“This is our task, but another is for the Premier League people, how they can help the teams to be better balanced - to play and manage the time, play the same matches, but try to share the schedule better.
“We have to protect English teams playing in Europe. If we can have five teams qualifying for the Champions League, it would be fantastic.
“Using our schedule as an example, how they set the schedule for the next week doesn’t make sense.
“It’s not my job, and I have to adapt to the different competitions we are facing because playing three matches in a week, there is more risk for the players to get tired, to get injured, we have to share the minutes as well as we can.”
