Aston Villa legend’s family hit out after malicious social media rumours
@Source: birminghammail.co.uk
The family of Aston Villa legend Peter Withe have have hit out at false rumours that the club's European Cup winning striker has died. Peter's son Steve replied to the sick social media post which indicated that Withe had passed away, verifying: "This clearly is not a real group!! Complete BS. In the last hour this was put up. Not true at all UTV." Withe, 73, famously scored the only goal of the 1982 European Cup final as Villa prevailed over Bayern Munich in Rotterdam, on one the most famous night in the club's history to date. Liverpool born Withe made over 200 appearances for Villa and scored 90 goals having joined in 1978 from Newcastle United - that followed spells at the likes of Wolves, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest, among others. Withe, who also won the First Division title in 1981 during a decorated stay in B6, left in 1985 to join Sheffield United, before returning to Villa in 1991 in a coaching capacity.
