Aston Villa are said to have offered 'around £40 million' for a potential Emiliano Martinez replacement. The future of the Argentinian shot-stopper and World Cup-winner remains up in the air as links to Saudi Arabia and Spain continue to surface, especially with rumours the Villans may be forced to sell this summer in order to stay within domestic and European player spending rules. But should Martinez leave for pastures new, it seems Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier is one of Unai Emery's top targets to fill his boots. As reported by Caught Offside , Villa are said to be the first club to make an offer for the Frenchman's services, believed to be 'around £40 million'. Previous reports had stated the Ligue 1 side were looking for a minimum of £33.5 million, but the extra could potentially be that dreaded 'Premier League tax'. Another club rumoured to be interested in Chevalier are Villa's Premier League rivals Manchester United, who will be looking to give the out-of-form Andre Onana some competition after a dismal campaign. United have also been linked with Martinez. A number of other teams around the world are also claimed to be potential suitors, with European giants Barcelona the most notable. Chevalier, who is 23 and has two years left on his current contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, came through the academy at Lille and after a couple of loan spells finally made his senior debut against Marseille in 2022. He was one of the highlights of the club's shock 1-0 success over Real Madrid in the league phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League , gaining global recognition for his impressive performance. Internationally, the player has represented France at the Olympics, as well at under-21, under-20, under-18 and under-16 level—but is still to oust Mike Maignan from between the sticks for Didier Deschamps' Les Blues.
