ATP Washington Day 1 Predictions Including Cameron Norrie vs Billy Harris
@Source: yardbarker.com
It promises to be a great opening day of ATP action in Washington. Cameron Norrie will play his first match since reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinal, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is also scheduled to feature. We here at LWOT split the 11 matches on the slate between three articles, which contain matches like Reilly Opelka vs Murphy Cassone and Jenson Brooksby vs Yoshihto Nishioka. Who do you think will advance?
ATP Washington Day 1 Predictions
Matteo Arnaldi vs Daniel Altmaier
Head-to-head: First meeting
Both men play their best tennis on clay, but are also capable hard court players. At his best, Arnaldi is slightly better on the surface and in quick conditions. Altmaier’s one-handed backhand is vulnerable when he does not have time on it, and that could prove crucial in this matchup.
Prediction: Arnaldi in 2
Daniel Evans vs Zizou Bergs
Head-to-head: First meeting
Evans had some good results during the grass court swing and will have happy memories from winning his most significant career title in Washington two years ago. This is the Briton’s first appearance at the tournament after missing it last year to play at the Paris Olympics. Before playing quite well on grass, Evans had a pretty wretched time, mostly competing on the Challenger Tour. I think he might revert to type after being lifted by the home British crowds on grass.
Prediction: Bergs in 3
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: Mpetshi Perricard 1-0 Vukic
Expect the sets to be decided by a few points, as Mpetshi Perricard’s matches often are. Vukic often enjoys playing on North American hard-courts, but returning is among the weakest parts of his game. That will make breaking or even just winning points on the huge-serving Frenchman’s serve very challenging in the fast conditions in Washington. Mpetshi Perricard might get a few more points on return, which could prove crucial in tiebreaks.
Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 2
Cameron Norrie vs Billy Harris
Head-to-head: Harris 1-0 Norrie
Norrie’s impressive run at Wimbledon seemed unlikely when he lost to Harris in Eastbourne, but he found form. Unlike Evans, I think he can build on that enough to beat Harris this time. The 29-year-old is a much more complete player than his compatriot and would need to play poorly yet again to give him a chance of winning again.
Prediction: Norrie in 2
