McEvoy, who took out gold in the men's 50m freestyle in the Paris Games, took to social media to share the happy news - but also voiced his concerns over the effect the pregnancy could have on the mum-to-be. 'Who would have thought 2025 would be better than 2024 with two becoming 3 in the McEvoy household as we soon welcome our baby boy!' McEvoy wrote. 'Going through the last few months with Maddi has been a rollercoaster of excitement, uncertainty and awe. 'Watching her go through the physical and emotional taxes of pregnancy so far, whilst carrying the added fear of how pregnancy may affect her own health with her heart has been nothing short of watching the full breadth of the human spirit to fight and give life in action. In February, the couple shared the happy news of their secret wedding with a single photo of their special day on social media with the caption 'eloped', accompanied by a wedding ring emoji. McEvoy revealed the huge personal news on social media that he had secretly married his girlfriend Madeline in February It has been a huge 12 months for the Aussie Olympic champion McEvoy shocked the world in last year’s Paris Olympic Games when he won gold in the men’s 50m freestyle And it came after the Aussie came within a whisker of quitting the sport after a series of frustrating results. After experiencing burnout, McEvoy had essentially retired and spent seven months away from the pool. During this time, he trained at a local gym six days a week for enjoyment and developed a passion for rock climbing. His rankings were modest: 40th in the world in 2020, 51st in 2021, and 38th in 2022. Then, in a fairytale turn of events, he won his first individual title in 2023. Now, he has entered Olympic folklore and created Australian sporting history. The 30-year-old, the first Australian man to swim at four Olympics, triumphed in 21.25 seconds in the one-lap dash. After he won, he was asked about girlfriend Madeline on live TV. 'The love is endless ... it's infinite,' McEvoy said. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram at the end of 2024. 'I've achieved some pretty big things this year but I think I just achieved my greatest one,' McEvoy said of the engagement. 'What a way to end 2024.'
