Axar Patel Creates History, Becomes 1st Delhi Capitals Captain To....

Axar Patel entered his name in the history books on Thursday (April 10) by becoming the first Delhi Capitals captain to win the first four matches of an IPL season. He broke former Indian opening batter Virender Sehwag’s record of three wins. During the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League, which was played entirely in South Africa, Sehwag led DC to three wins in the first three matches.
The 31-year-old all-rounder from Gujarat, after being appointed as DC’s captain for IPL 2025, has led the Delhi-based franchise to four wins in four matches played so far.
DC’s six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was his fourth win in a row.
Axar made his captaincy debut for DC in IPL 2025 by securing a 1-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in the match played at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 24, and then in the second match played at the same venue on March 30, Axar Patel’s men hammered Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets.
DC faced Chennai Super Kings in their third league match of IPL 2025 on April 5 in Chennai and won that fixture by 25 runs.
The architect of DC’s win over RCB on Thursday was KL Rahul. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Bengaluru came out to bat at No. 4 for Delhi Capitals in the 164-run chase and, during his stay at the crease, faced 53 balls. He remained unbeaten on 93 runs and hammered 7 fours and 6 sixes.
Rahul added 111 runs for the fifth wicket with Tristan Stubbs (38 runs from 23 balls) on Thursday, and the partnership in Bengaluru helped the duo break the record for the highest fifth-wicket stand in IPL history for Delhi Capitals. The previous best was 110 between JP Duminy and Ross Taylor in 2014 (vs RCB at Sharjah Cricket Stadium).
The defeat against DC on Thursday was RCB’s 45th defeat in IPL matches played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. No other team in the cash-rich league’s history has lost more matches at one venue than them. Delhi Capitals are in the second position with 44 defeats in IPL matches played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, and Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered defeat in 38 IPL matches at Eden Gardens.
