Pakistan will face South Africa in the third match of the Tri-Nation ODI series on Wednesday, February 12. The do-or-die match for both teams is scheduled to take place at National Stadium in Karachi. During the match, star Pakistani batter and former captain Babar Azam will have a chance to create history. If Babar, who has 5967 runs to his name in 121 innings of 124 ODIs played so far, manages to score at least 33 runs, then he will become the fastest batter in the world to score 6000 runs in ODIs.
As of now, the record of being the fastest player to 6000 ODI runs is held by former South African opening batter Hashim Amla. Amla crossed the 6000-run mark in his 123rd innings of the 126th ODI match. Amla is followed by Virat Kohli, who needed 136 innings, and Kane Williamson (139 innings).
Fastest to 6000 runs in ODIs (by innings)
Hashim Amla (South Africa) – 123
Virat Kohli (India) – 136
Kane Williamson (New Zealand) – 139
David Warner (Australia) – 139
Shikhar Dhawan (India) – 140
Babar is set to open for Pakistan in the third match of the tri-series at home. In the first match played against New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, February 8, Babar scored 10 runs from 23 balls with the help of one boundary.
The right-handed batter would like to come up with a big show in the must-win match to not only help Pakistan qualify for the tri-series final against New Zealand in Karachi on February 14 but also silence the critics who have questioned his place in the side after failing to do well in the last match.
If Babar manages to score a half-century in Wednesday’s match, then he will become the second Pakistani after Inzamam-ul-Haq to score 100 fifties in international cricket. Since making his debut for Pakistan against Zimbabwe during an ODI match in Lahore on May 31, 2015, Babar has scored 31 centuries and 99 fifties in 311 matches for Men in Green across formats.

Babar played for Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against South Africa in December last year and scored 73 and 52 runs in the second and third ODIs, respectively. He would like to start from where he last left off in South Africa and come up with another big show on Wednesday.
