New Delhi: Pakistans womens cricket team secured their place in the upcoming Womens World Cup in India after a decisive 87-run victory over Thailand. This win their fourth consecutive qualifier victory confirms Pakistans participation in the tournament although their matches will be held at alternative locations due to the tournaments hybrid format.
According to the agreement between the BCCI and PCB ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year Pakistan matches cannot be held in India. As a result Pakistan womens team will play their matches at a neutral venue which will be decided by the ICC later.
Thailands disciplined bowling restricted Pakistans scoring significantly in their match. Pakistan batting first struggled to score freely losing wickets regularly and reaching 100 runs only after 36 overs.
Pakistans batting struggled until a crucial 97-run partnership between Sidra Amin and captain Fatima Sana revitalized their innings. Amin contributed a solid 80 runs from 105 balls while Sanas unbeaten 62 off 59 balls including six fours and a six significantly accelerated the scoring rate.
Thailand began their innings strongly against Pakistan but consistent pressure from Sana Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu prevented any significant partnerships. While six Thai batters reached double figures none managed to score 20 runs or more. Thailands innings ended at 118 runs in 35 overs resulting in an 87-run victory for Pakistan and their qualification for the World Cup.
The West Indies having successfully chased down 228 runs against Bangladesh remain in contention for advancement along with Scotland. Both teams need substantial victories in their final matches and require a Pakistani win over Bangladesh to secure their progress.
The West Indies chances of qualifying have improved but their net run rate (-0.283) lags significantly behind Bangladeshs (1.033). A decisive victory over Thailand is crucial for the West Indies who also need Pakistan to defeat Bangladesh.
