Bangladesh will host a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe this weekend. The red-ball bilateral series will kick off on April 20 in Sylhet. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe last faced each other in the longest format in July 2021. In that fixture, Bangladesh came out on top with a 220-run victory in Harare. As for the upcoming tie, Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh’s charge across the two matches. Craig Ervine will perform the captain’s duties for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe last competed in a Test match in Bangladesh five years ago. They faced the Asian cricketing side in February 2020. The Tigers secured a commanding victory in that match, beating Zimbabwe by an innings and 106 runs. Bangladesh have not played a Test match since they toured the West Indies last year. Under Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s leadership, the Asian side began that series with a 201-run defeat to the Caribbean powerhouse. In the second match, Mehidy helped his team pull off a huge comeback win and level the tie 1-1. Taijul Islam was awarded the Player of the Match award for his standout display in Kingston. Earlier this year, Zimbabwe faced Afghanistan in a two-match Test series. While the first fixture was a draw, the Ervine-led side lost the second game by 72 runs.
